We service or upgrade systems supplied by us or our Partners. We also upgrade many 3rd party systems
Most of our older systems can now have our advanced Nova software loaded. This offers improvements in performance and functionality (DVD ripping is not provided in Nova) (Note: Nova takes up 30GB of the system disk (60 GB on 2TB+ systems))
If possible, we back-up and restore your music etc but accept no responsibility for your data so you should ensure that you have a back-up before the system is sent to us
Our basic charge includes inspecting health of your system. If we cannot fix your system we charge just a £15 inspection fee. We will advise if new drives or other changes are recommended. We offer 6 months warranty on the items that we replace
If your system is old or damaged we may offer a Trade-In against a new system. Please ask. We also offer service/re-purpose for competitive music servers that the original manufacturer is unable to assist with. Ask us?
How do I use this? – Our mailing address is displayed on this site. Please pack your system well. We generally use the same packaging for return. You may arrange return collection by your courier or we will arrange for you. Our return insurance covers our invoice value so you may wish to take additional insurance
Upgrade LIV Zen Vortebox 1st Version Linux to Nova – Alex Marks
This is what a company should be like! I wanted to update my version 1 Liv Zen Vortexbox running on Linux. I approached Audiostore for advice and had the pleasure of being contacted by Martin Smith. Martin advised me regarding options. I didn’t just get advice on software and hardware. Martin took time to find out my music preferences and uses, to see what would best suit me. This is how it should be there was no attempt to sell me a box or package I wouldn’t need or use. Absolutely rock solid professional service and advice given with patience bearing in mind my poor technological skill and knowledge. I ended up upgrading my existing Box to the latest Nova software with extra Ram, parts and a Khadas DAC. I was using a Cyrus XA music streamer which was perfectly good but the Cyrus DAC it uses can t handle the higher specification music files such as DSD. Installation and post purchase advice was patient and superb. Martin must have spent easily 3 hours on the phone pre and post, dealing with set up and installation, and I came away much more knowledgeable, involved and interested. The result is astonishing. It is like I am listening to the music for the first time. The sound I am getting through my system is noticeably terrific. I cannot thank Martin and Audiostore enough. I had a recent issue with my Microserver which wouldn’t start up – having been unable to resolve online I sent it back to Martin to look at it – the issue was quickly resolved and the unit posted back free of charge. A Vast Improvement – Tim Smith
I was gifted an old Vortexbox appliance and contacted audiostore for some advice. As well as giving the answer I needed this upgrade was recommended and after a bit of hesitation I went for it. I am so glad I did. The newer software makes everything much simpler to operate and a number of compatibility issues have been resolved. The version of LMS on the upgraded unit has increased the functionality of my Squeezebox touch. Turnaround time was fast and I was informed when the unit arrived, when work commenced and when it was dispatched back. It arrived back a day early as well. Not being an experienced user of this type of tech I sent off several panicky emails with questions that probably made no sense when I was setting the unit up. These were handled with patience and courtesy. All in all excellent service to upgrade a remarkable and versatile product.
Nova Upgrade – Lloyd Jeffries
With the help of Martin I bought an old Vortexbox ripper back to life. Ripping has been quick & easy as I work through my large CD collection thanks to Nova. For streaming my collection, Squeezebox box works well using a DAC both from pc tablet or phone. When using a phone the Orange Squeeze app is excellent. You also can link existing streamers you may have up easily as an alternate using a DLNA server.Though for the moment I am enjoying the use of a DAC for both flexibility and sound quality. There are other server options such as Plex which I’m going to investigate next. It is also very easy to use all the online streaming options with the software as well as apps for back ups, missing artwork, tags etc. Very impressed Thank you Martin.
Upgrade – Chris
I bought an unbranded NAS drive/Music Server/CD Ripper with Vortexbox software pre-loaded back in 2012. I ripped about half of my 1000 CD collection back then and then paused for 7 years due to a number of house moves and breeding! When I came to resurrect my digital music exploits this year the ripper stopped working and the software seemed a bit buggy. I picked up the phone to Martin having found Audiostore in the Vortexbox forum. I haven’t looked back. Martin offered to take a look at my unit and see if he could repair/upgrade it (even though it wasn’t one that he’d sold to me!). 4GB extra RAM, a new SSD, a new ripper and great Nova software later and my music listening has been transformed. I’ve ripped 500 CDs in 4 weeks with no problems. The Nova software is so flexible and opens up new worlds by being able to install a range of other software/plug-ins out of the box without being technical. I Have experimented with LMS, Roon, Qobuz, Tidal, Radio Paradise and am able to play through USB DAC, Chromecast, Sonos and DLNA. It’s been wonderful liberating my old CD collection and complementing it with a variety of hi-res audio streaming options all made possible through a budget system, a fraction of the price of high-end hi-fi equivalents. Martin has been incredibly generous with his time and wouldn’t hesitate to recommend Audiostore to friends and family.

Vortexbox Lux upgrade for Roon – Tim Lloyd
I just wanted to thank Martin for his kindness and understanding helping me setting my Vortexbox Lux following its recent upgrade. Not only is he a true expert and gives excellent advice he is extremely patient! My Vortexbox performance has improved amazingly following the upgrades he advised costing under 200 it really reinforced that my decision to buy from Audiostore was right. Firmware upgrade and new DAC – amazing! – Tim Hardisty
5 years ago I bought a VortexBox and just used the built-in sound card. Roll forward, and it was time to upgrade. Contacted Martin and asked advice and he recommended an IFI Nano and, based on my needs, a firmware upgrade to the new VB Nova (SonicOrbiter based) firmware. The price for the upgrade was more than reasonable so, although I am quite adept at updating things, in this instance I had no time/inclination to do this so decided to send my ‘box back for an upgrade, health check, and DAC install (not strictly necessary as it was PnP, but easier at the time!). My box was returned within a few days; a few questions, answered very quickly, due to unfamiliarity with the new software, and I was up and running. Well worth it for the small outlay as it is so much better than the old VB offering. Do it!

My 2.5 year old vortexbox appliance had shut down unexpectedly. Clearly out of Warranty I feared having to pay for a new unit, however this was investigated and for a fraction of the new cost a new fan & the software were installed. Martin kept me informed throughout the process, including receipt & despatch. Result, a VBA in excellent order and I can thoroughly recommend this service. Probably worth doing for older appliances even if there are no immediate problems.
